The New Year's Gift

By woolybill1
Another visit to my bookshelves, egged on by the December subject for the reality? Group, 'dull light'.

As I was striving to keep the key word of the books in focus from a semi-kneeling position* the winter's gloom lifted for a few seconds and weak sunlight fell on the subject in just the right place.

* That's the position from which you can neither get up nor sit down despite the cramp in your legs and the wobbles in your knees . . . And for the under-60s among you, it's coming your way too .. . .. . ..

Here's hoping that we may all profit from the gift of light in 2012.

WISHING A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE.

Knees - you have knees that work? Under 60 but knees gone horribly wrong, would love to be able to kneel or crouch without screaming!

A superb image Bill. Perhaps Nikon will bring out a camera with a flip-out screen soon like the Canon. I have to say, it's invaluable.
All the best.

Just a question Bill but wasn't that what stools were invented for, might be worth carrying one of those light plastic ones around.

Books are among my most prized possessions. You have photographed them so artfully, it shows you care a great deal about them, too.
The subtle tones are very good indeed Bill, lovely image, hope the old knees are OK after all the athletics.

Nice one Bill! I know what you mean. I was on the South Bank just before Christmas, crouching down to get some reflections (loaded camera bag on my back) and when I tried to get up, instead of standing up, toppled onto my back like an upside down tortoise! Felt extremely silly, especially as in the true London style, nobody acknowledged what I had done despite the fact I was talking to myself and laughing.... Anyway - I'm impressed by the Russian book... have you read it? Smile

It's The Churches of Russia, it was a gift from Russian friends years ago (we were involved in a school exchange with St Petersburg for some 20 years, it's still going). The book is beautifully illustrated and I can manage to read the picture captions. Fortunately they are not in old Cyrillic script like the title on the spine - it's sort of equivalent to our Gothic script and a nightmare to read.

Ah yes, Bill. The dreaded 'neither up nor down' synd
rome. 'Tis a bugger, isn't it. The youngsters will be laughing, but their turn will indeed come, as you said.
A vision is an apt description of this excellently lit image with the focus on the message.

All the very best for 2012.

One of the best images I have seen for a long time Bill, fabulous capture, light, DoF, you name it it's there. I would doff my cap to you sir, if I wore one and knew how to 'doff' properly!

Wishing you and Moira a fabulous 2012 and many thanks for your last mail, replying to which is my only New Years Resolution!
