A Place Less Visited 5

Redundant social club, Blaydon. Viewed from the back. This is the westernmost of the adjacent buildings.

Thanks for all the encouraging votes and comments on this series. The title-set continues at the weekend but the venue changes.

Well composed Bill. Bleak and depressing this one.

Bleak and moody, Bill.

My father was a long time member of a social club and on my twentieth birthday he convinced me to join it.
I used it rarely and yet I continued to pay the membership which was not much. I eventually became a life member and membership fees ended. It was always busy and the drinks were cheaper than local pubs.
Like many clubs, it passed it's prime and closed and is now a gym.

For me, this is the best of the set so far. No idea why.Blush

While the meaning of the message on the left, referring to Her Majesty's Constabulary, is perfectly clear, the meaning of TWOK to the right can be interpreted in various ways. For example:

The Wrath Of Khan (Star Trek movie)
The Way of Kings (Brandon Sanderson book)
Taking Without Consent (vehicle theft)
Tested Working Ok (field engineers - hardware repair)

I presume it ties in with the fact that the building has been 'taken without consent and was turned into an illegal squat.

Your usual masterclass in light and tone, Bill. Also useful, reading the above, to discover the meaning of various terminology, probably best avoided. Allan

A bleak image, all the more so because there is no clear sense of dimension; the whole thing is strikingly 'flat' which intensifies the sense of hopelessness and decline. Glad to make it 30 and add a gong of my own! SmileSmileSmile

All angles covered I reckon, Bill.

Excellent image Bill. Thanks for telling us it was redundant.
It has the look of many social clubs. Better, in fact, than some that
are still functioning, SmileSmile.

Think you've caught it's best side here Bill...certainly the foreground is the tidiest! 😁

It has been a great set showing the more depressing side of modern day Britain.
