Socially Distanced 68

Return to Beamish 2

There were very few other visitors when we first returned to Beamish; I think only two of the pit row were open but the gardens, being open to the air, were available for all to view.
Typical of such places throughout most of the 20th century all available resources were used to 'make do and mend'. Here unwanted enamel signs have been used to prolong the life of a wooden shed.

Delighted by the enthusiastic reception to yesterday's Socially Distanced 67 I extend my thanks to all who voted and commented, to Ollie and Graham for their generous awards and indeed to everyone who just popped in for a look. Greatly appreciated!

Very impressive use of the old enamelled signs, a fine mono here.

I remember holes in socks being darned with wool left over from knitting jumpers.

There's probably upward of 500 worth of signs there!

Great image that shows how times change. Once used to help fix and make do, now hanging on walls inside people's houses. Great shot.

'Pump' hanging on the wall of the outside privy could well be viewed as an instruction. Grin Or maybe a warning to passers by !Wink

That is probably the most expensive shed of its size anywhere going on the silly prices people with pay for those old signs.

Recycling is the way forward Bill, just think of the noise from signs when it rains !

I would imagine these enamel signs now, will be worth more than the shed! Make-do-and-mend the forerunner of DIY? Good capture with great mono tones, Bill.

A great idea for shed building material, Bill.
Black and white? Yep, I think it had to be.
