The number of soldiers of the Great War buried in Hohrod German military cemetery, pictured here. It is situated high in the Vosges above Colmar in Alsace. A bitter, months-long battle for the Linge sector, about 1000 metres above sea level, was fought nearby in 1915.

The cemetery indicator (V2) stands immediately in front of a German bunker.

An outstanding V1, Bill - V2 puts things into context.

I was interested in the derivation of the German `Friedhof- Cemetery' and seems to come from the old German word `Friede' which can be loosely translated as `peace'...so place of peace....(Moira says her upload are not about `peace'...mmmm SmileSmileSmile)

Always sobering

I tend to see it as the indiscriminate power of nature over human ambition, Bill. A superb mono.

A very well worked image in V1 Bill, it has that 'Picture Paints a thousand Word's ' look to it.

Tricky exercise in depth of field here, Bill. Nice bokeh.
