Different and I like the props and treatment .... maybe worth playing around with the arrangement and spinning the books and skull around slightly so that we view them from an oblique angle and not head-on like this. You could get more depth into the image with that approach.

This has definite Shakespearean undertones, Doug - book plus skull. Yorick the sheep, perhaps?

If you juggle skull and books relative to each other by a single degree at a time there are only 129,599 further possibilities to go

I like the precarious arrangement of the books. And I have been known to doodle like that on the edges...

I like it but might think about finding older string, perhaps a bit thicker as well with frayed edge. Lots of possibilities with a bit of tweaking for something really special here.
