Impromptu caught shot of my beautiful friend, Andy. Taken indoors, in natural light, with a little post processing of the levels and sharpening.

I have little desire to photography people generally, unless I can capture something beyond their physical presence. I feel as if I have that something else in this image, but would welcome other's opinions xx

Hi Zenith.

I like this. I agree with you that it has something beyond a formal straight portrait. Shots of people where the eyes are not visible dont work often, but this does.

Its a fleeting moment, with the subject apparently unaware of the camera; he seems to be in thought, or concentrating, and its a moment you have captured, rather than a portrait.

I like the processing, it suits the subject.

Ive looked at your recent uploads, - you have disabled voting on them (or not enabled voting), just wanted to check that this is intentional, and not an error.

I have to declare an interest: I know the photographer.

So this picture doesn't surprise me at all: it is sensitive, and shows the beauty in a face that has been a bit weathered. It would be easy to make this too harsh, or to have too much focus... The eyelashes are sharp (which is what I would aim for here, as would most togs), and their delicacy says a whole lot about the person.

As Willie says, the processing suits the image, and - like the focussing and depth of field - contrsts the lived-in face with a gentleness that goes beyond the physical presence.

A success, I think!

Thank you very much for your comments. I'm pleased that there are some good photographic elements in the image too Smile

Voting should be enabled for most of my images... I think there are some I don't have the voting option available for some reason? Not sure why...

And there's a reason - anything you submit to the Critique Gallery has voting and awards disabled.

Anything else - you may have ticked a box by mistake...
