Oh I don't know which I prefer - such a strong portrait both work well for me. I just perhaps would not have cropped the top of his head off - shame people LIKE their heads!

I don't know if you took this in black and white or converted it but if you converted it I would experiment with a few different ways of converting it as some come out a bit softer which might actually work better because the face is so strong.

Eating strawberries in a sunny day!

Eating strawberries in a sunny day! by Dilek

I am surprised no one has commented on the foreshortening making her seem rather cartoon / caricature - like with a large head and small body. The harsh shadow/light combination also detracts from the rather delightful expression on her face. I would have gotten down on her level to take this photo which would have eliminated the foreshortening / perspective problem and just got her to turn her head slightly out of the direct sun (or shaded her face slightly) but as you say it is such a delightlful expression. One for the family album of treasured memories isn't it?

The Afterlife!

The Afterlife! by Leo

Lovely to see an effect used to such ahem good effect. Excellent frame that balances and matches the colours in the image extremely well. Well done!

Love the title too. Suitably subtle with more than one meaning. Makes you look at the photo twice which a good title should do.

Water by bobchilts

Really interesting reflection. Pity in a way about the cloud behind the building as I think that distracts from what would have been a very moody and otherworldly reflection in the pond. I like the composition as the pond is nicely framed by the dark bits (grass and whatnot) around the edge.

Light and Darkness. Reflection.

Light and Darkness. Reflection. by Oleg_Lobzin

Really nice abstract reflection that works well for me. My only suggestion (and only because my eyes go squiffy when a picture is not in balance) is that I would crop a millimeter or so off the left hand side so that the light is dead center.

Elephants in Water

Elephants in Water by Mikkx

Quote: Great work !

Like the white splashes just by the feet to break up the flood and the seamless way you stopped at the reeds and the sky.

The texture on the elephants seems a bit ott perhaps a more pastel tone to the skin might gel the whole image a lot better ?

The idea of combining your own drawings and photography to create a whole is wonderful thinking. Well impressed !

Firstly thanks for the positive feedback - in reply - the texture on the elephants is the result of the textured paper the original was drawn on. I can't really "untexture" it and also this is the hand drawn component I think it is important to keep this part of it....?

LOL ok .. NOT what I expected for the title and gallery category. Good photo .. just not sure I agree with sentiment ... I thought it was going to be a far more edgy comment on the falseness of the body image stereotype forced on women by 'Barbie' and other fashion images in the media.

Put a real size woman in the middle and you have got a REAL statement!

LOL yes but DESPITE the missing wingtip still a fantastic shot - may I suggest a 'solution' - crop the other wingtip off as well - surprising how well that works to make it 'intentional' and balances the image back out again and fools the eye into thinking you didn't make a 'oops'.

gerbera daisies

gerbera daisies by Bear46404

May I point out that these are Gerbera Daisies and YES they are indeed lovely.

And I just learned something ...

Quote: The domesticated cultivars are mostly a result of a cross between Gerbera jamesonii and another South African species Gerbera viridifolia. The cross is known as Gerbera hybrida. Thousands of cultivars exist. They vary greatly in shape and size. Colors include white, yellow, orange, red, and pink. The center of the flower is sometimes black. Often the same flower can have petals of several different colors.

LOL I would have titled it ROFLMAO .... white fur is such a pain to shoot - always comes out looking a little burnt out ...but I like the image .... the composition is interesting and the tonal processing is pleasing on the eye.
