I took this picture of a typical 1960 block of flats in Boulogne quite a while back. At the time I was in a bit of a rush to catch the ferry back. So the following year I went back to spend some time there only to find it had been knocked down. There is a lesson there !

There's akind of brutal beauty here Tony, well suited to b&w treatment. the rural background give a nice contrast too.

Just the kind of photograph that appeals to me; clear shapes, significant contrast and the subtleties shown in the pillars and the distant buildings. That the eye is taken down the passageway is an indication of good composition and the small black border brings the whole thing together, especially where dark lines merge into the border.

Many people learn that lesson the harder way, without a picture... Rushed, perhaps. Successful, though. This shows the aspirations, the appeal that was, the problems that followed.
