A timeline of activity and river crossings, remains of an old jetty (perhaps for a ferry?) in the foreground, the Millenium footbridge and the new station on the 19th century Blackfriars railway bridge behind.
An excellent mono image.

A Thameside area, although not the only one thus named, once known as "Execution dock."

There's also a "drowning pool" almost opposite on the south side.

I think that the Execution Dock was further downstream at Wapping. Interesting history about it but rather gruesome !

The one at Wapping is the best known but in reality, there were several.
