Thanks Colin. Sometimes I find it difficult photographing these situations and ask my self if I am exploiting these people who have found themselves in such tragic circumstances. I reconcile such thoughts in the hope that by showing these people and by talking to them at length helps, through public shaming, that society responds in some way. A forlorn hope maybe !
Alternative title - Walking away... Well done for allowing her space, context, rather than sticking the camera up her nose. For me that's about respect and dignity. Which I guess is about all that she has.

That sums up my feelings exactly.
As you say, we can go home afterwards, these poor souls are stuck in a world that's hard for most of us to imagine.

A very respectful documentation of Maria and the numerous others in these tragic situations , well done on lending an ear and some sustenance. We have gone to get some food for some such as this at times to find them gone on our return often moved on by local councils and such.

A good choice not to crop this one, Tony and for the reason you've given.
It's easier than some people think to talk to a homeless person although, an element of guilt creeps in when photographing them but, not half as guilty as the feeling that comes when walking away from them.
Maria is obviously a genuine case and for people such as her, there are so many abandoned buildings that could be developed into accommodation. A roof over their heads, a hot meal or two and a feeling of safety rather than desperation and fear.
At the end of this year there will be office blocks and empty factories in abundance but, they will not be considered for shelter for the homeless. Why? Because it would mean spending money rather than earning it.
And yes, well done for buying her food and for listening.

The short moments of kindness shown by you and any others who bothered to share their time with her, will give her some small hope...and that is all we, as individuals, can really hope for.
